in the unbearable lightness of being, milan kundera pointed out that we all felt the need to be watched. he said that there were four categories of ways people wanted to be watched.
1. to be seen in public by a million anonymous eyes
- these are the celebrities and public figures
2. to be seen by family members and friends
- the people who host parties or are popular among known faces
3. to be seen only by one person you’re very close to
- these are the lovers or best friends
4. to be seen by an imaginary person
- they imagine someone’s eyes upon them at times
